Text on the back of the photograph: Early Science -- The early Michigan Agricultural College is best known through the important contributions made by the college and its professors to the field of agriculture. In actuality, however, the East Lansing college was one of the pioneers in scientific education and research during the early years of the institution. Shown above is a picture of a physics laboratory of 1892, as a professor illustrates his instruction with numerous pieces of apparatus.
