Description: Black and white moving image footage of two instances of African American students demonstrating at Spartan men's basketball games. Nigel Goodison, president of the MSU Coalition of Black Athletes, stands alone at center court at the beginning of the November 18, 1972 Green & White game at Jenison Fieldhouse, his left arm raised in the air, fist clenched. Goodison, a senior soccer player, protests "racism toward the black athlete at MSU". More than 100 African American MSU students, members of the Black Coalition Council, protest at the beginning of the February 26, 1972 home game against Iowa. Led by Flint senior Sam Riddle, the demonstrators protest the suspension of Minnesota basketball players Ron Benagen and Corky Taylor, and demand accountability for the handling of various university minority programs. Riddle can be seen speaking with President and Mrs. Wharton at the end of the clip. 16mm | black and white | silent
